If you’ve made the decision to cut your sugar intake, recognising the risks of too much sugar in your diet, it may surprise you to learn about a number of foods which you probably didn’t even know where bad for you. Sweets and cakes aren’t the only foods loaded with sugar, there are some foods disguised as “healthy” that actually have a pretty high sugar content.

The main culprits are

  1. Sauces such as BBQ, marinara, tomato sauce and salad dressing: between -22 grams per serving
  2. Peanut butter:  4 grams per two tablespoon serving
  3. Packaged cereals:  Some “healthier” varieties contain 18 grams of sugar per serving
  4. Oatmeal:  Flavoured versions can contain 12 grams of sugar per serving
  5. Flavoured yogurt: Up to 18 grams of sugar per serving—more than a serving of ice cream.

In a recent study involving children, cutting down sugar resulted in significant health improvements in just 9 days.

According to a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of California, sugar is toxic and being an expert on childhood obesity, he set out to research the impact of reducing sugar on 43 obese children between the ages of 9 and 18.

Among them, there were children suffering from at least one chronic disorder such as high blood pressure.

Results showed a drop in cholesterol and blood pressure levels, better blood glucose levels and ­improved liver function over a period of 9 days, surprising given the short timeframe.

Anti-Smoking Drug May Help Combat Sugar Addictions

Sugar Nutritional Info and NewsResearchers from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, and SRI International in California have found that anti-smoking drugs may actually be useful in combating sugar cravings.

The study conducted on rats found that Champix (Varenicline) which is used to help people stop smoking could also help combat cravings for sugary food and drinks.
